Knüpfwerk Atzgersdorf
Can a latently existing green network be developed into a parallel world of atmospheric connections that renews our idea of infrastructure?
Knüpfwerk Atzgersdorf is the result of an idea-finding process that was developed as part of an interdisciplinary closed-door planning process with architects, experts in spatial, traffic and open space planning and the City of Vienna as an actively involved client. The aim was to produce a handbook with which the Atzgersdorf district could be newly framed in order to fully exploit its development opportunities and potentials.
Knüpfwerk Atzgersdorf is the result of an idea-finding process that was developed as part of an interdisciplinary closed-door planning process. Rather the starting point than the result, the work points out the potential that is to be triggered by planning and development processes. In particular, these potentials work with existing but not yet visible qualities in order to link them with new images of development. Instead of buildings and volumes, the Knüpfwerk offers an “atmospheric framework” that addresses structural as well as social and cultural qualities at the same time. The images of development are accompanied by images of processes. In this way, the work underlines its role as a source of impetus, as a challenge to “carry on building”. We wish that the stakeholders in and around Atzgersdorf use the Knüpfwerk as a starting point for future initiatives. In this way, Atzgersdorf could be framed anew and can appear as a city district that makes full use of its possibilities.
