The future of road infrastructure, nodes and crossings.

In the framework of a competition organized by Área Metropolitana de Barcelona the situation of an existing highway node was investigated. 3 different strategies and one architectural solution were proposed in order to resolve the mobility problem : SuperSponge infrastructures, Eco-Corridors and SuperNodes integrate the road net into the community and into the landscape.  An elevated walkway - the "pasarela" - works like a magic wand, connecting what is separated.

Territory

Roads, nodes, settlements and rivers

The magic wand

The elevated walkway connects all the important points in a straight line. By floating above infrastructure and landscape it becomes both a landmark and a connector. The pasarela is a lightweigth piece of infrastructre, replacing the heavy, subterranean operation of building a tunnel.

SUPERHUB

a new industrial node, based on circular economy

REORGANIZATION

The eco-corridors as a web of interconnected eco-highways.

TYPES OF SOIL

Specific interventions rejuvenate soil and create space for a new biodiversity.

INCLUSIVE ARCHIPELAGO

Communities, clusters, institutions and neighbourhoods form part of a productive web with distinct synergies.

ENCOUNTER OF INFRASTRUCTURES

Local and regional lines meet in a number of nodes that create new connections.

TRANSFORMATION OF THE EXISITING

Isolated warehouses form a center for circular economy. The "whale" offers space for different scales of production, from small to large. The existing shopping mall, formerly a classic "highway-junkie" establishes new synergies with local economies.
