In 2012, we won the urban planning ideas competition for the Nordbahnhof area in Vienna with our entry “Freie Mitte/Vielseitiger Rand”. Nine years later, we are pleased that the first section of the central open space, the urban wilderness, has been opened and that the name “Freie Mitte” has actually survived. For us, “Freie Mitte” is a promise: that an open space can really be free space, for people, animals and plants at the same time.
